How to stake ADA

Choose a pool in your wallet. Your ADA stays yours, and you may earn rewards.

  1. Get your wallet ready

You need ADA in a Cardano wallet that you control.

    • Use the wallet’s official website.
    • Keep your recovery words offline and private.
    • Check that your ADA has arrived in the right account.

You delegate through your own wallet

Delegating lets a stake pool participate in Cardano’s block production using your stake. Your ADA remains spendable; ordinary delegation does not transfer it to the operator. Rewards vary and are not guaranteed.

ADAStaking is an educational guide. You do not need an account here, and we never need your recovery phrase or a transfer of ADA.

    1. Prepare your wallet

A self-custody wallet gives you control of its keys and responsibility for protecting them. An exchange balance is different: the exchange controls the keys and sets its own staking terms.

Have three things ready: a wallet you can safely access, ADA in the intended Cardano account, and the full ID of a pool you have checked. Creating a wallet alone does not put ADA into it. If your ADA is still on an exchange, complete and verify your withdrawal to your own wallet before starting these delegation steps.

    1. Choose a Cardano wallet from its official website. Check that it supports your device and delegation. The Lace and Eternl guides in this learning library explain their documented staking flows.
    2. Follow its setup instructions. Keep the recovery phrase offline and private; never paste it into ADAStaking or send it to support.
    3. Confirm you are using Cardano mainnet and that ADA is available in the intended account. Leave room for the costs shown in the wallet’s transaction preview.
  2. Choose a pool and check the fee

Open your wallet’s staking area. Find your pool and review the details.

    • Match the full pool ID, not just its name.
    • Read the network fee and any registration deposit.
    • Confirm only inside your wallet.

    2. Check the pool, then the transaction

Registration of a new stake address requires a deposit. Delegation also incurs a network transaction fee. Read the wallet’s current amounts rather than relying on a fixed quote in a guide.

    1. Compare the pool’s identity, fees and operating history. Save its full pool ID so you can check the same pool in your wallet.
    2. Open your wallet’s staking area and locate the pool. A ticker is a search aid, not proof of identity: compare the full pool ID in its details with the ID you saved.
    3. Open the delegation preview. Check the Cardano account, pool ID, transaction fee and any registration deposit. The deposit and network fee are different from the pool’s reward margin and fixed cost.
    4. If everything matches, approve inside your wallet using its usual signing method. Ordinary pool delegation does not require sending your ADA balance to an operator or connecting your wallet to ADAStaking.
    5. Wait for confirmation and wallet synchronization, then check the intended account’s delegation. Keep the transaction reference and delegation date for your own records.
  3. Check confirmation, then wait

First rewards usually take about 15–20 days, if the pool earns rewards.

    • Check that the transaction is confirmed.
    • A zero reward balance at first is normal.
    • If something looks wrong, check before trying again.

    3. Give the network time

First rewards commonly take about 15–20 days if the pool produces blocks. A confirmed delegation and an immediate zero reward balance can both be correct.

Before withdrawing rewards, your stake key needs an active vote delegation: a DRep, abstain or no confidence. This governance choice is separate from choosing a stake pool. Rewards can accumulate before you make it.

If something does not look right

A submitted transaction, an active delegation and a reward payment are different checkpoints. First inspect the transaction status; then check the pool associated with the account; only then investigate reward timing. Do not repeatedly submit the same delegation while a transaction is still pending.

If the pool ID, account or costs are unexpected, stop before approving and consult the wallet’s official help. A support request can describe the screen and error without revealing recovery words, passwords or unredacted account screenshots.
