How to choose a stake pool

Check who runs the pool, what it costs and how it has performed. One reward number is not enough.

Documentation checked · By ADAstaking.io

  1. Check it is the right pool

Match the full pool ID in your wallet, the operator’s website and an independent explorer.

    Start with the pool’s identity

Use the full pool ID to match a pool across your wallet, the operator’s website and an independent explorer. A familiar name or ticker alone is not enough to establish identity.

Make a small comparison sheet: pool ID, source link, date checked, fees, saturation and questions for the operator. This makes your choice easier to revisit.

  2. Compare a few useful facts

Use current information, not just a pool’s best result.

    • Is it active, with no planned retirement?
    • What are its fixed cost and percentage fee?
    • Is it too full, and does it produce blocks reliably?
    • Has the operator put in the ADA they promised (pledge)?

    Compare several signals together

A pool’s costs, margin, performance and stake all affect its attractiveness. One headline reward percentage cannot describe all of those tradeoffs.

    1. Check whether the pool is active and whether retirement is scheduled before considering its historical results.
    2. Read both the fixed pool cost and percentage margin. A zero margin does not mean the pool has no costs.
    3. Check saturation: beyond the protocol’s target, extra stake no longer increases pool rewards in the same way, reducing rewards per ADA.
    4. Compare performance over multiple epochs, not just the latest result. Smaller pools can have more uneven reward timing.
    5. Check that the owners meet their declared pledge. A pool that fails to meet it earns no pool rewards for that epoch.
  3. Choose for a reason

Save what you checked. Review your choice if the pool’s fees or status change.

    Understand what sponsorship means

A sponsored placement buys visibility. It does not certify performance, establish ownership or guarantee a return. Apply the same checks to sponsored and other pools.

This pilot lists real pool identities collected from operator websites. The source and pool ID checks do not verify current registration, ownership, fees or performance. Check current wallet or explorer records before choosing a pool.

Keep a reason for your choice

Write one sentence explaining why the pool suits you, plus the facts you checked. Review that choice when fees, status or your priorities change. You do not need to chase whichever pool topped a single recent epoch.
